Jeeva Jyothi Children Mani Mandram (Children's Collective)

Right to form associations is a right enshrined to children under Art 15 of UNCRC

Jeeva Jyothi Children Mani Mandram is a children collective at the area level to provide a platform for the children to come together, learn their rights and to be actively involved in community building process.

The Children Mani Mandram started in late 90s is a collective of children teamed up in each locality to enable the children to understand their rights and to practice the same. This children Mani Mandrams provide motivation and awareness on issues of child rights, and empower the children with skills required to participate and to educate their friends and parents.

The children Mani Mandrams meets once in two weeks in at the area level.

The objectives are:

  • To provide a platform to come together and discuss about their rights
  • To provide knowledge on life skills and develop their capacities.
  • To motivate children to follow positive discipline techniques at school and home.
  • To create awareness on child rights and child protection.

In Children Mani Mandram, the children discuss local problems and chalk out policies and programmes to tackle them. It is a micro level democratic exercise for children.

Other capacity building measures include training in Media, Journalism, Radio Broadcasting, Making of a Documentary film and Newspaper Publishing.

The Structure

Each Mani Mandram has a President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and a Treasurer.

The Federation is network of elected representatives of children Mani Mandrams from different areas managed by the President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and a Treasurer along with executive committee members
